College basketball picks, schedule: Predictions for Kansas vs. Iowa State and more important top 25 games Saturday

Hopefully you have multiple screens and streaming devices nearby, because Saturday will be a dandy of a day to immerse yourself in wall-to-wall basketball action. From noon ET slate all the way through the late window, a plethora of games can rightfully compete for your attention.

The drama kicks off early Saturday at noon with what can only be described as a date visit as Kentucky and Tennessee – John Calipari vs. Rick Barnes – always must-see television. But this one has some interesting interests Kentucky slog. A road loss to the Vols would give the UK its third-ever losing streak in SEC play of three or more games under Cal’s watch and further sink an increasingly distressed Lexington, Kentucky ship. Matched against Tennessee and its No. 1 defense isn’t exactly an ideal spot for the Wildcats.

Later in the afternoon, expect more fireworks and drama in both the Big Ten and Big 12. Indiana, who has slipped three games, urgently needs to come home against an also struggling Wisconsin team. Kansas State looks set to assert itself as a true contender in the Big 12 with an important road test vs. TCU. Then, of course, there’s Kansas welcoming Iowa State to Allen Fieldhouse for a showdown with two undefeated teams in league games.

Drama, drama, drama.

Ahead of the action, our team put their heads together to make picks for every key play, both upright and against the spread.

Odds through Caesars Sportsbook | All times Eastern

No. 11 Kansas State at No. 17 TCU

Recommended game | TCU Horned Frogs vs. Kansas State Wildcats

2pm | ESPN2, fuboTV (Try Free) — TCUs lost by a combined six points in the vaunted Big 12 twice in a row, while K-State is 15-1 and gaining steam as a legitimate contender. But I’m going to lean in the opposite direction of recent momentum and take TCU here. The Horned Frogs are playing well despite recent stumbles behind Mike Miles Jr., Emanuel Miller and Damion Baugh. Choose: TCU -3.5 (Boone)

No. 14 Iowa State at No. 2 Kansas

Recommended game | Kansas Jayhawks vs. Cyclones of the state of Iowa

4pm | ESPN+ — Kansas has looked completely dead in the water twice this season before resurrecting itself and rolling to wins for the Jayhawks faithful. Picking them out at home seems silly, but this season they’ve given teams the chance to keep it close at home in league games, and this ISU team is equipped inside and out to continue that trend with a cover of the spread. Choose: ISU +8 (Bone)

Recommended game | Clemson Tigers vs Duke Blue Devils

5pm | ACC Network, fuboTV (Try Free) — Jeremy Roach’s injury has crippled an already struggling Duke team and cost it some growth and momentum as the young core develops. And outside of Kyle Filipowski, Duke’s young five stars have been a bit hit and miss. But Dariq Whitehead comes on strong, Filipowski plays at a high level and Ryan Young (!) is giving important minutes right now for a team that I think could upset this road. Roach isn’t expected to be there, but Tyrese Proctor can get the job done. Choose: Duke +1 (Boone)

Kentucky at No. 5 Tennessee

12 hours | ESPN, fuboTV (Try Free) — Every time it feels like Kentucky has hit a new low this season, it surprises by falling another rung off the ladder and a new ones low. But a loss on the road here wouldn’t qualify. Tennessee is a heavy favorite and is expected to win by double digits behind its No. 1 defense. I expect it to be a little closer as Kentucky fights for its life, but the Vols in this spot straight up are game. Prediction: UK +14 (Boone)

No. 18Wisconsin in Indiana

Recommended game | Indiana Hoosiers v Wisconsin Badgers

1pm ET | CBS, CBSSports.com, CBS Sports App (Free) — Indiana is in a defensive funk as it struggles with injuries to veteran starters Xavier Johnson and Race Thompson. The Hoosiers have had three consecutive Big Ten foes surpass 80 points, losing all three games. Wisconsin is grappling with its own injury problem as leading scorer Tyler Wahl recovers from an ankle injury. But the Badgers have enough firepower elsewhere in the roster to keep it close and maybe even steal a road win. Choice: Wisconsin +4.5 (Cobb)
