The Broncos block defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero from interviewing the Falcons for the same job.

Hours after news broke that the Falcons wanted to interview Evero, the Denver mail reported that the Broncos will not allow him.

Evero is under contract with the Broncos for the 2023 season, meaning the Broncos may block him from interviewing for a job other than head coach. It’s still possible that the Broncos’ head coach will eventually decide not to keep Evero as a defensive coordinator, which could be a rough deal for him if the other defensive coordinator jobs he was eligible for are filled by then. But the Broncos would still have to pay him his salary if he was left without a job next season.

It is also possible that Evero will become head coach in 2023. The Broncos and Colts have already interviewed him and he is scheduled to interview the Texans next week.

Last season, the 42-year-old was Ejiro’s first as defensive coordinator, and he performed well in a year when Denver’s defense held off in many games that the offense eventually lost.

Dean Pees, who had been the Falcons’ defensive coordinator for the past two years, announced his retirement after the season.
